THE INDIAN LAW INSTITUTE announces CLEA-MILAT Research Mentoring Programme (RMP) in association with Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy & Training (MILAT) MILAT

RESEARCH MENTORING PROGRAMME (RMP)

Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s (DPIIT’s) Model Guidelines on Implementation of IPR Policy for Academic Institutions, 2019 envisaged fostering creativity and innovation in the areas of technology, sciences and humanities by nurturing new ideas and research in an ethical environment in Universities and Colleges. National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has also emphasized adequately on value-based research and quality research in higher education and professional courses to make India a preferred destination for international students and hub of innovation.

It envisages a framework to establish and nurture world class institutions/ universities to attract students and members of faculty; and facilitate research-intensive courses designed to have a new knowledge economy. Research is integral to the scheme of meaningful legal education. Researchers have to undertake research projects and handle various aspects like research planning, conducting research, writing research reports and presenting these in the form of articles, all of which require special skills. These research skills are also essential for law teachers not only for conducting research for their career progression but also for equipping students for the legal profession.

Researchers have to adopt scientific methods for credible results. In particular, legal research is a prerequisite for various career options which a law student may choose to take after completion of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) or LL.B Degree namely, Advocate arguing matters in court; solicitor providing legal advice; jurist analyzing laws and judgments;
corporate law practitioner advising and representing corporates; member of judicial services deciding on matters; academician training students in law or researcher engaging in legal research. For any of the above roles, a thorough understanding and application of research skills is of utmost importance. CLEA and MILAT are committed to encourage and mentor the law teachers and researchers continuously by providing necessary academic support and imparting training in the necessary skills to enable to execute projects confidentially and successfully.

About the Program:

The Research Mentoring Programme (RMP) has been envisaged with two-fold objectives:

(a) to educate and train the young educators/ researchers of tomorrow in the field of law.

(b) to create institutional infrastructure to have research-intensive curriculum and legal pedagogy.

 

The RMP will be in the following three phases spread over 8-10 Weeks with academic inputs and support provided through physical or virtual mode or both:
i) Preparatory Training
ii) Initiation of Research
iii) Project Writing and Testing the Data

First Phase: Preparatory Training

The First Phase of the programme is dedicated to train the young research Scholar/ Young faculty members and equip them with skills and knowledge for preparing/ formulating the research proposals. This will spread over 1 week with interactive teaching/ workshop sessions. (Duration – 1 week)- Physical

Second Phase: Beginning of Research

The Second Phase begins with the formulation of research proposal with the help of allotted mentors. The participants will finalize the proper research plan and work out the modalities. By using the accepted tools for data collection, the researchers will collect, analyse and interpret the data.(Duration – 3-4 weeks.) (Distance Mode/From the respective Work Place)

Third Phase: Project Writing & Testing the Data

In the last phase, the Researcher will start writing the article/report using the material collected, analyse with the guidance of Allotted mentor. Once the draft article/ Report is ready, it is the duty of the Researcher to submit the research article/report before the last date of submission. 3-4 weeks (Distance mode/ from the respective work
place).
